About TheorieApps

Who is behind this comparison

An independent comparison portal for driving theory apps in Germany. With one clear goal: helping learners find the right app and pass the theory exam on their first try.

Why this site exists

Germany has more than ten driving theory apps on the market. Some are excellent, others are outdated, overpriced, or packed with aggressive advertising. App stores show you star ratings but never honest comparisons. Driving schools often recommend only the app of their publishing partner. Google delivers SEO-optimized listicles without real substance.

The consequence: thousands of learners each year buy the wrong app, lose weeks of study time, fail the theory exam, and have to pay another 22.49 euros for a second attempt.

TheorieApps exists to make this decision easier. We analyze publicly available data (iOS and Play Store ratings, question catalog certification, language support, pricing models) and weight them using a transparent formula. The result is a ranking that does not change because a provider pays more.

How we rank apps

Every app is evaluated using a weighted scoring model:

  • User satisfaction in the iOS App Store (35%)
  • User satisfaction in the Google Play Store (25%)
  • Number of ratings as statistical relevance (20%)
  • Official TÜV/DEKRA certification (10%)
  • Language support and accessibility (10%)

The full methodology and the logic behind each weighting can be found in the methodology section on the homepage.

Who is behind this

My name is Rajesh Hassein. I run TheorieApps as an independent project. The reason is simple: I have experienced firsthand how frustrating it is to find the right learning app for the German theory exam, especially when German is not your first language.

The site is available in five languages (German, English, Turkish, Arabic, Russian) because the user groups are very diverse: German learners, Turkish-German families in their second or third generation, Arabic-speaking immigrants from Morocco, Syria, and Lebanon, as well as Ukrainian and Russian-speaking residents who need to recognize or newly obtain their German driving license.

All content is editorially maintained. Data is regularly updated from official app stores. Rankings change when the data changes, not because a provider exerts influence.
